Posted 12/10-09 at 11.00

Following the conclusion of the Coroner's hearing into the deaths of Fiona Pilkington and her daughter, Leicestershire Police Authority has convened a special meeting to receive a report from the Constabulary regarding the police actions involved in this case. The meeting will take place on Tuesday 13 October 2009 at 10am at Force Headquarters, St Johns, Enderby, Leicester, LE19 2BX. Members of the press and public are welcome to attend to observe the discussions at the meeting.

Mr Byron Rhodes, Chairman of the Police Authority said: "Leicestershire Police Authority has a legal duty to hold the Chief Constable to account and has therefore requested that a report into this tragic incident is provided to the Authority forthwith. Members of the Authority will be asking for an explanation of the police actions in this case and taking a critical look at measures subsequently put in place by the Constabulary".

Anyone intending to attend should notify the Authority on 0116 229 8980 or by email to police.authority@leicestershire.pnn.police.uk.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is also to investigate the case. IPCC Commissioner Amerdeep Somal said they would be examining "how seriously the police responded to her calls for help, whether the action was appropriate and what actions they did or did not take".
