Disability Activist appointed by UN as Special Rapporteur.

The UN has appointed a life-long rights activist as the Special Rapporteuron Disability of the Commission for Social Development for the period 2009-2011.

Schuaib, an old friend of DAA's, was an active member of the ANC, then was appointed Head of the Office on Disability Issues in South Africa.

The mandate of the Special Rapporteur is to monitor the implementation of the Standard Rules on the Equalization of Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities, adopted by the General Assembly in 1993, and to advance the status of disabled people throughout the world.Schuaib comes with a wealth of experience and rights based commitment to the job.
