UK: “Train your bowels”, disabled residents told

Posted 08/7-11 at 18.54

The Care and Social Work Improvement Scotland (SCSWIS), the country's care watchdog is investigating allegations that disabled residents at a supported-housing complex run by the Margaret Blackwood Housing Association have been told to train themselves to go to the toilet at fixed times to fit in with a new regime.

One resident, said: "You can't force yourself to go to the toilet. In this day and age, it shouldn't be happening. It's against human rights and so demeaning."

In a joint statement, the housing association and the city council said they were working together to "improve choice and personalisation" for tenants.

They declined to comment on the specific allegations.
