UK: Thousands march against government attack on disabled people

Posted 13/5-11 at 01.22

On Wednesday, May 11th, five thousand disabled people and supporters from all over Britain made their way to London to protest about the government's cuts to benefits and other policy changes that will make life more difficult than it already is for disabled people and their families.

Many were angry about cuts in mobility allowance, which they say will limit their independence; others at the changes to payments from disability living allowance to child benefit, which they claim will hit them hardest. Many of the demonstrators fear that, despite changes that have already affected them disproportionately, the worst is yet to come.
