Japan: Government report backs inclusive education

Posted 27/7-10 at 09.48

A government reform council report has called for inclusive education to be established in Japan's schools. This goes directly against current practice of segregated schooling.

The report cites the UN Convention's article on inclusive education and urges the government to ratify the CRPD which they signed in 2007.

The editorial in the Ashai Shimbum says, "Creating an education system that allows all children ... to study together is an important step toward building a society where everyone accepts differences and respects diversity among people. This idea is gaining global currency."
