No matter how complicated or high-powered the process may now seem, none of us should forget that it is grassroots activism that has brought us this far. A Convention, when it is adopted, will not be given to us as a gift but will have been won by the effort of disabled people, and our supporters, who have pressed the case for such a legal instrument for decades.
This week, the first revised text of the new Convention on the rights of people with disabilities is available for download on the UN Enable website. At the moment, this text is only available in English.
