Biotechnology

Biotechnology is an important issue for disabled people - whether we are for or against.

Quite apart from the scientific and medical issues, unrestricted access to the results of biotechnology could result in discrimination - in employment, insurance and access to healthcare.

As an introduction to this important issue, this site contains a number of resources that we hope yo will find helpful.

The special edition of the 'Disability Tribune' should provide a useful introduction to the subject. Originally published in February 2000, the information remains topical and includes some useful links/

Over the weekend of 12 and 13 February 2000, 130 disabled people and parents, delegates from DPI organisations in twenty-seven countries in Europe, Africa, Australia and North America, met in Solihull (West Midlands, UK) to discuss bioethics and human rights.

The meeting - the first of its kind anywhere in the world - concluded with agreement on the DPI Europe Solihull Declaration.

Finally, our 'Links' page includes a number of resources relating to biotechnology.
